Abraham, Dn. Joshy C. Deacon Joshy was born in Neendapara in Ernakulam District, Kerala, and belongs to the Chembakasseril family. Abraham, Dr. Mathews Born in Kerala, India, Dr. Mathews studied at C.M.S. College, Kottayam and graduated in Medicine from Banaras Hindu University, India in 1972. He obtained a post graduate diploma in Tropical Medicine from Liverpool University, England in 1984. While in India, Dr. Mathews was a member of the John the Baptist Attamangalam Church of Kumarakom, in the Kottayam Diocese of Malankara, and has been a member of St.Mary's Jacobite Syrian Church, Sharjah, U.A.E since its inception in 1980. He served as the Vice President of the Church Building Committee which built the new church in Sharjah. This is the first church of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church in the Middle East and was consecrated by H.H. Moran Mar Ignatius Zakka 1 Iwas on 28th November, 1997. Abraham, Thomas Thomas was born in 1954 in the Thandasseril family, Thiruvanchoor, Kottayam. He graduated from CMS College Kottayam in 1974 and is employed as a productivity consultant in Bahrain, where he migrated to in 1977. He was one of the founding members of the St Peter's Church in Manama (established in 1978) and continues to serve in the managing committee. He also teaches Sunday School Xth grade. Acis, Gewargis bar Iskender Gewargis was born in 1974 in Arnas, a place near Midyat in Tur-Abdin, Turkey. He immigrated to the Netherlands in 1980. He is a student of theology in the third year at the Catholic University of Nijmegen, residing at St. Ephrem's monastery in Glane, Losser. Addeh, Dolfen Dolfen was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1975 although her family is originally from Miden, Turkey. She has a degree in Honours Social Sciences, and has also recently graduated with a B.A. in a Joint Honours Program in Classical Archaeology and Anthropology. She has majored in three areas: International Studies, Jewish Studies, and Quebec and Canada Studies. She is currently enrolled in the Masters degree program in Syro-Palestinian Archaeology at the University of Toronto, Canada. Her main area of focus is Syrian Archaeology. Akkaya, Emelin Emelin's parents, Yahko and Naila Akkaya originally are from Enhil, a village near the City of Mardin, Turkey and migrated to Wiesbaden, Germany as foreign workers at the end of the sixties. Her father´s family is called Sohdo and her mother's Gahja. Emelin was born in 1972 as the eldest of five children in Wiesbaden, where she attended grammar school. Afterwards she received training in a computer firm in economics and is currently studying education science and linguistics at the Johannes-Gutenberg-University in Mainz. Her interests are in didactic and psychological aspects of learning. Besides she took part in a university program on migration and comparing education systems in Europe. She also has interests in computer linguistics. She hopes to leverage her varied interests in developing learning software and building up a social network that supports her church. Akinci, Avgin Avgin's roots are in Marbobo, Turkey but has resided in Belgium since 1980 when he was four. He has gone back to his village once but found no one there since everyone had fled the village due to the difficult circumstances there. He has three brothers and two sisters. Avgin likes to play football and other sports. He works with his brothers.    
Aksan, Jack Turan Turan was born in Keban, Turkey, in 1971. His family emigrated to Stockholm, Sweden, in 1976, where he completed high school studies in natural science. In 1990, Turan left for Seattle, USA to begin university studies at Pacific Lutheran University. After completing a bachelor's degree in economics, he moved to Luxembourg to work for Merrill Lynch as a banker. In 2002, Jack founded a company based in Zurich and serves as the chief executive officer of the company. Turan's family continues to reside in Sweden. Allaf, Kerim & Patricia Born in Mardin, Turkey, Kerim moved to Los Angeles at the age of 16. Kerim holds a Bachelor's in Computer Engineering. He is actively involved in the activities of St. Ephraim's Syrian Orthodox Cathedral, Burbank. He has served as the Youth Club President, School Founding President, member of the Board of Trustees and an active member of the choir. Alyassi, Naofal Abu Naofal was born in Mosul, Iraq, in 1966 in Abu Alyassi family. His grandparents in the Abu Alyassi and Abdul Noor families were well-known for their contributions to the church, having built the church in Mosul. Noafal's family left Mosul and settled at Boston, but he has resided in Canada since 1995. Naofal finished his dentistry degree in Canada and is registered with the Royal College of Dental Surgeon in Ontario. He practices dentistry in Ontario where he has an office; he also travels around Ontario to see senior citizens who cannot go to dental offices due to age or illness. Arslan, Jean Jean was born in 1972 in the village of Anhil (12 km south from Midyat) in Tur `Abdin. He migrated to France in 1980 where he completed his technical education. Jean works as a Information Systems Director in a firm in Paris. He is the designer and webmaster of a French website for the Syriac Orthodox Church and is authoring a book on Syriac Saints of Tur `Abdin in French. Ashkar, Anthony Ghassan Anthony is fourteen years old (as of Jan 99) and resides in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. He has two older sisters, Maryanne (see below) and Leen who is seventeen and enrolled in Poly Prep, C.D.S. Tony's father is a nephrologist from Safita and belongs to the Ashkar family; his mother is an engineer from Saidnaya. He visits Syria with his family every summer for three months. One of his favorite places to visit is Dayr Saidnaya one of the largest Christian places of worship in Damascus. He also enjoys Il Ela`h in Safita, where his uncle Malek resides. Ashkar, Maryanne Though born in the United States, Maryanne visits Syria, the land of her origins, every other summer. Her parents are from Safita and Saidnaya. Maryanne resides currently in Brooklyn, New York. She is twenty years old (as of Jan 99) and a third year pre-Med student at New York University, majoring in psychology. Cheriyan, Fr. Thomas Poothicote Fr. Thomas was born in Mepral, near Thiruvalla, Kerala, but his family migrated to Erumely in Kottayam District. He belongs to the Poothicote family and his native parish is St. John's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, Mepral. Fr. Thomas graduated with BA and BD from Bishop's College, Calcutta. He was consecrated priest by Metropolitan H.G. Mor Coorilose Kuriakose on 21st July 1995. Fr. George, Dipu Dipu was born on September 2, 1974 and was baptised at St. Mary's Syrian Orthodox Church, Manarcad. He is a member of the Tiruvalla Simhasana Church although he resides in Cochin. Dipu graduated with a Bachelors in Architecture from T.K.M. College of Engineering at Kollam in 1997 is now an associate architect in an architecture firm, Design Combine based in Cochin. He is also involved in a team that will be documenting and researching Jewish Synagogues in Kerala. Dipu has learned the rudiments of Syriac and has a keen interest in the architecture of the Syrian Churches in Kerala. Currently he works at CAE as a systems support specialist. Lynn was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec and was part of the United Church of Canada. Ghazal, Rich Born in Florida, USA, Rich Ghazal was raised in, and currently resides in Rhode Island, USA and is active in `idto d-Mor Ephraim, RI. His family comes from the town of Midyat in Tur `Abdin. After leaving Midyat, the Ghazal family went to Adana, then Lebanon, and in 1972 migrated to the USA. Rich also has roots in the village of Arbo. Infact, his grandmother's maiden name is Doumato (her family was named after the church in Arbo, Mor Dimet or in Syriac, Doumato). Goric, Johnny M. Johnny was born in Jerusalem and continues to live there, working as executive chef in the French Consulate. He studied in France for 3 years. The roots of his father's family go back to Lebanon. Hajjar, Hanna Hanna was born in Beirut, Lebanon although his family originally comes from Urhoy (Urfa/Edessa). Currently he lives in Los Angeles, California, USA. A Mechanical Engineering graduate from the American University of Beirut, Hanna now works as a consultant in the fields of IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) and HVAC (Heating, Ventilating & Air Conditioning). Hanna introduced Syriac characters to video graphics, multi media and teleprompting, and has also generated Syriac educational videos for children. He has researched Syriac names and their meanings (unpublished yet) and the evolution of Syriac alphabet (partially published). He is interested in the art of Syriac iconography. Hanna, Yakup Yakup was born in Wollongong, NSW, Australia. He was a jeweller in Sydney, but now lives in Brussels and works in a suit and cloth store. Yakup's family is originally from Hah, in Tur `Abdin. His grandfather was the muktar (mayor) of Hah for about 22 years.
