H.H. Mor Ignatios Peter IV came to Malankara in 1876 and convened the Mulanthuruthy Synod at Mulanthuruthy Mar Thoman Church. This synod was pivotal in the history of the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church. It divided Malankara into six dioceses and created the Malankara Association, the governing body for the Malankara Church. His Holiness ordained six bishops for each diocese including Mor Gregorius (Parumala Kochu Thirumeni) at St. Thomas Church, N. Parur. His Holiness passed away at 4 am on Monday, September 26, 1894.
